LED filament bulbs now are available in the Edison vintage style. They emit warm light just like the original 1900’s Edison bulbs, they are shaped the same, and even the filament inside the bulb is similar. The wattage they consume is a fraction of what the incandescent bulb consumes and the average life is 5 times longer.
It’s a no brainer then, right? Not quite, well maybe, it all depends on how you use them. The cost of those LED Filament bulbs is 3 to 4 times higher than the original bulbs and the look when lit in my opinion not as authentic as the original vintage Edison bulbs. If used in a business, hotel, or any other commercial application where those bulbs are on for extended periods of time then the LED option makes a lot of sense. But, if you are planning on using them at home mainly for ambiance and they will not be turned on for more than 3 or 4 hours a day then I truly believe the original vintage Edison bulb is the better choice.
It’s almost like classic cars. The look is unmatched by any new more efficient car, but you probably do not want to use them as your main ride if you drive a lot.
